Position Statement

AHIMA's core values are Integrity, Bold, and Inclusive.  How would you incorporate these into your service if elected as House of Delegates Speaker-elect?

Integrity, boldness, and inclusivity are not only AHIMA's stated values but essential leadership principles for a profession navigating rapid transformation. If elected as House of Delegates Speaker-Elect, I would intentionally embed these values into how the House operates, how we engage members, and how we position the profession for the future.

Integrity must remain the foundation of the House of Delegates. The Speaker role carries responsibility to ensure that member voices are represented accurately, discussions are conducted transparently, and decisions reflect the best interests of the profession rather than individual perspectives. I would prioritize clear communication, consistent governance practices, and alignment between the House, the AHIMA Board, and Component Associations so that members can trust the process and the outcomes.

Boldness is necessary at this moment in AHIMA's history. Health information professionals are facing unprecedented change driven by artificial intelligence, automation, evolving reimbursement models, data governance demands, and workforce disruption. The House of Delegates should not only react to change but help shape the direction of the profession. As Speaker-Elect, I would encourage forward-thinking dialogue, support thoughtful but courageous recommendations, and ensure the House remains a strategic voice that helps AHIMA lead rather than follow.

Inclusivity is critical to the strength of the House of Delegates. Our profession includes individuals from diverse practice settings, career stages, credentials, backgrounds, and geographic regions. The Speaker must ensure that all delegates feel heard and that differing viewpoints are welcomed as part of healthy governance. I would continue to support structured, respectful discussion, broaden opportunities for delegate engagement, and promote participation from emerging leaders so the House reflects the full scope of today's health information community.

Incorporating integrity, boldness, and inclusivity into the work of the House will help ensure that the HoD remains a trusted, relevant, and forward-looking body that supports AHIMA's mission and the future of the profession.
