POSITION STATEMENT

AHIMA's core values are Integrity, Bold, and Inclusive. How would you incorporate these into your service if elected to the AHIMA Board of Directors?

If elected to the Board of Directors for American Health Information Management Association, I will lead with AHIMA's core values—Integrity, Boldness, and Inclusivity—as guiding principles to advance the health information management (HIM) profession and strengthen the trust placed in us as stewards of health data.

Integrity is foundational to everything we do in HIM. In my work across privacy, compliance, and release of information services, I have seen firsthand that trust is built through consistent, ethical decision-making and operational transparency. I am committed to ensuring AHIMA continues to serve as a trusted authority by reinforcing strong governance, promoting adherence to regulatory standards, and supporting members in navigating increasingly complex federal and state requirements.

Integrity also means being accountable—to our members, our partners, and ultimately the patients whose information we are privileged to protect.

Boldness is essential as our industry undergoes rapid transformation. From the rise of artificial intelligence and digital health to evolving policies around access, interoperability, and data sharing, HIM professionals are uniquely positioned to lead. I will advocate for forward-thinking strategies that challenge traditional approaches, modernize HIM practices, and elevate AHIMA's role as a national thought leader. This includes strengthening AHIMA's voice in shaping policy, embracing innovation responsibly, and ensuring our members are equipped to lead in a data-driven healthcare environment.

Inclusivity is critical to building a strong, representative, and future-ready profession. HIM spans diverse care settings, roles, and communities, and our leadership must reflect that breadth. I am committed to fostering engagement across all member segments, amplifying diverse perspectives, and creating opportunities for emerging leaders. By cultivating an inclusive environment, we not only strengthen our profession but also enhance our ability to address the complex challenges facing healthcare today.

Together, these values are not aspirational—they are operational. They guide how we make decisions, how we lead through change, and how we support our members. If elected, I will bring a balanced perspective grounded in compliance, operational excellence, and strategic vision to help AHIMA continue to evolve, lead, and deliver value to its members and the broader healthcare ecosystem.
