Biography

My current position is the Director of Health Information Management Systems Program at Northeast Community College. A prior position, I was the Director of Health Information and Privacy Officer at Faith Regional Health Services. The HIM field has been a great field and profession to study and be involved in as it is always changing. It is exciting to work in a field that is evolving! Over the past few years, I have been involved with several NHIMA committees, been a member on the NHIMA Board, attended National AHIMA meetings, been involved with the Northeast Community College HIMS Advisory Board and serve as an adjunct instructor and also have been involved with AHIMA task forces.

Position Statement Question

What makes you uniquely qualified to serve on the AHIMA Board of Directors?

As a committed and experienced professional in the health information (HI) field, I am passionate about advancing our profession and supporting the strategic objectives of AHIMA. Over the past 19 years, I have had the privilege of serving in various roles with my state association in Nebraska, NHIMA as well as AHIMA and other related organizations, which have provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our profession. My journey in the HI field began with an interest in leveraging health information to improve patient care, and it has evolved into a career dedicated to advocacy, leadership, innovation, and mentoring and teaching the next generation of health information professionals. As Speaker of the House, my primary goal will be to foster an inclusive and collaborative environment that empowers AHIMA members to actively participate in shaping the future of our profession. A few areas that come to mind are enhancing member engagement, advocacy influence, professional development and education, and innovation and technology. My leadership experience with both NHIMA and AHIMA and other professional organizations has equipped me with the skills necessary to excel as Speaker of the House. Highlights of my experience include Serving as Board President for NHIMA where I successfully led initiatives, improved processes, and fostered member engagement. Co-Chairing the Information Governance and Advocacy Committee - NHIMA which focused on bringing advocacy awareness to the NHIMA members through website updates and informational brochures. Actively participating in NHIMA's state conferences and events, where I have presented on various topics and facilitated discussions among state members.
