Position Statement Question
What makes you uniquely qualified to serve on the AHIMA Board of Directors?
I have been part of the HI community since obtaining my credentials more than 25 years ago. I am currently in my third year as a board member for AHIMA and have been actively engaged in our strategy plan and advocacy work. I have been a member of several state associations during that time and have volunteered in many capacities including component association roles, such as president. I frequently speak locally and at the annual convention on a variety of topics within the HI space and workforce/leadership development. My day job as the vice president of health information, revenue integrity and compliance at Cedars Sinai Health System grounds me in the daily challenges facing health care, revenue management, information privacy and security, HI operations, leadership, remote team management and workforce development. If elected, I will leverage my diversity of thought and experience to advocate for the profession and membership as we continue our quest to make a positive impact for the communities we serve. Leadership development – specifically in the HI space – is my passion. I feel strongly about our role in creating a positive patient experience, as well as our unique ability to serve as a liaison between clinical care practice and the administrative work in the business of healthcare. I believe that in the last 5 years, HI professionals have taken our spot at the executive table. We are now compelled to bring all of our expertise and value to our healthcare communities and teams – ranging from code assignment and interpretation of data to ensuring the completeness, accuracy, confidentiality and security of our patients’ information to optimal revenue capture funding the provision of care to all.
