Biography

Kelly Canter is a seasoned health information professional specializing in revenue cycle management, artificial technology and product design, management and strategy. She is passionate about bringing those three aspects together to help be a catalyst for change in reducing the administrative burden in health care. She has over 20 years in the field including publishing multiple books and articles as well as speaking at the national level. Kelly is an active member of AHIMA having served many volunteer roles at the national, state and regional levels. She is a master’s educated RHIT who is also credentialed in medical coding and product management.

Position Statement Question

What makes you uniquely qualified to serve on the AHIMA Board of Directors?

If elected to the AHIMA Board of Directors, I would embody the core values of integrity, boldness, and inclusivity in my service to fulfill the mission and vision of AHIMA. First, I would ensure that integrity is at the forefront of all my actions and decisions. Upholding the highest ethical standards, I would prioritize transparency and accountability in governance, promoting trust among members and stakeholders. I would encourage open communication, sharing knowledge, and resources to enhance the credibility of AHIMA as a leader in health information management. Secondly, as no stranger to acting boldly with intention, I would actively pursue innovative ideas and solutions that contribute to the transformation of health and healthcare. I would advocate for the implementation of cutting-edge technologies and methodologies to stay ahead in an ever-evolving healthcare landscape. I would work collaboratively with fellow directors and stakeholders to set ambitious goals and strategies, recognizing the profound impact of our work on the health, safety, and well-being of individuals, especially in this critical time in the evolution of healthcare technology solutions. Finally, I would champion inclusivity by acknowledging and respecting the diversity of members and perspectives within the health information profession. I would make a deliberate effort to ensure that different voices are heard and valued, creating an environment that fosters creativity and excellence. Recognizing the inherent dignity of every human, I would strive to make AHIMA a welcoming and inclusive space for all members. This includes advocating for diversity and equity in leadership roles and decision-making processes. By integrating these core values into my service, I aim to help AHIMA realize its vision of "a world where trusted information transforms health and healthcare by connecting people, systems, and ideas."
