Nearly everyone has been affected by cancer. A loved one. A friend. Maybe even yourself.
When someone you care about is facing a diagnosis, you want them to feel seen, supported, and cared for. Cancer registrars help make that possible.
AHIMA and the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) created the online Cancer Registry Management (CRM) Program to prepare more people to do this important work. The program helps students become eligible to sit for the Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification exam. This credential is required by hospitals accredited by the Commission on Cancer.
The CRM Program is an NCRA-accredited online certificate program designed for flexibility. Whether you’re just getting started or already working in healthcare, the program gives you the education and support you need to step into a cancer registrar role with confidence.
You’ll build practical skills and gain a clear understanding of how your work supports patient care, research, and prevention.
Graduates of the program are prepared to:
The full program includes ten courses. Start with four foundational courses from the AHIMA Medical Coding and Reimbursement series:
Then move into six specialty courses, designed to be taken in order:
Once you’ve completed the coursework, you’ll finish with a practicum. This final step helps you apply what you’ve learned in real or simulated work settings.
Because cancer care continues to evolve, we recommend completing the program within 12 months to keep your knowledge current.
