Position Statement Question
AHIMA’s mission is empowering people to impact health®. What distinctive expertise and experience do you have to contribute to AHIMA’s mission?
I feel that I can positively impact the empowerment of people in health due to my work experience within Health Information and education. My experience in Health Information spans from working as a Technician, progressing up to a Regional Director with Release of Information being one of my areas of expertise. I currently work for a vendor in the area of Compliance and Privacy focusing on Governance, Risk Management, and Compliance. I have worked as an educator at a local Community College in the Health Information Management and Technology program. I believe this experience has afforded me the opportunity to gain the knowledge to be a change agent for the profession. Education is very important to me and as such I sit on the Advisory Board for two local Community College's Health Information Management and Technology programs. I am also on the Executive Board for both my State and Regional Association. I want to empower current and future Health Information professionals to not limit themselves. We must think outside the box in order to continue to grow this profession. I believe that leading requires involvement, involvement requires knowledge, knowledge requires experience, and experience leads to growth. I want to continue to be a part of the growth.
