Dr. Scott Sittig is an Assistant Professor in Health Informatics at the University of South Alabama. He earned his PhD in Biomedical Informatics in 2017 from the University of Texas Health Science Center, School of Biomedical Informatics in Houston. His dissertation titled, “Integrating Behavioral Trigger Messages into a mHealth System Design for Chronic Disease” focused on developing an mHealth application to improve self-efficacy, knowledge and self-care measures for individuals with type II diabetes. In addition, he earned a master’s degree in health informatics from Louisiana Tech University and a Bachelor of Science degree in health information management from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Dr. Sittig is the former chair of the AHIMA Foundation Research Network and is a frequent speaker at the AHIMA Convention and AOE Conference. His research interests include: developing and implementing applied health informatics methods/tools through persuasive technology to advance consumer health informatics, patient engagement and chronic disease management.

Currently, Dr. Sittig is involved in several mHealth projects at the University of South Alabama to include the departments of Family Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology. The mHealth research project with Family Medicine is an extension of his dissertation work on a larger scale. He is currently developing a post-birth warning signs support mHealth application in conjunction with the University of South Alabama Obstetric and Gynecology Clinic.
