AHIMA Announces Registration and Program for AHIMA20 Virtual Conference

CHICAGO – August 19, 2020 – The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) announced today it has finalized more than 100 education sessions for its AHIMA20 Virtual Conference, taking place October 14-17, 2020.

AHIMA CEO Wylecia Wiggs Harris, PhD, CAE, said while she knows many attendees will miss gathering in person with their peers, a virtual conference offers exciting benefits.

“I know there are members who wouldn’t have been able to attend AHIMA20 in Atlanta who are excited for the AHIMA20 Virtual Conference,” Harris said. “Attendees of the virtual conference will have an opportunity to complete more education sessions and earn more CEUs than if they attended the meeting in person. And I think they will be pleased with the opportunities for engagement with other health information professionals. Now, more than ever, it is important for leaders in health information to be in dialogue with each other and with thinkers from around the industry to help conceive of and plan for the future.”

AHIMA20 will focus on health data and its educational topics include clinical documentation integrity; privacy and security; clinical coding; patient identification and matching; social determinants of health; organizational management and dynamic leadership; revenue cycle management; and many more.

The conference will take place on a robust digital platform that makes it easy and exciting for attendees to view sessions and engage with peers. Traditional standbys like a welcome reception, a general session, and a closing session—this year’s will be a closing happy hour with prize giveaways—are all included in the agenda. And for the second straight year, there will be a pitch competition. It will challenge attendees to consider how they might use health and human data to identify social determinants of health to improve patient outcomes and healthcare systems.

A virtual conference presents innovative exhibitor and sponsorship opportunities. AHIMA20 will once again be the gathering place for health information influencers, decision makers, consultants, and educators.

AHIMA is also pleased to announce that Health Information Professionals Week (HIP Week®) is rescheduled to coincide the AHIMA20 Virtual Conference.

“In the midst of this difficult time, I’m thrilled we will be able to celebrate HIP Week® during AHIMA20,” Harris said. “This year has highlighted the importance of health data and the tireless work of health information professionals. I look forward to recognizing the people who make this such a dynamic profession.”

Health information professionals can register for the AHIMA20 Virtual Conference at AHIMA.org/Conference. Reporters interested in covering the meeting as a credentialed journalist should email Mike Bittner, AHIMA’s media and communications manager.
