The authority of the Director derives from serving as a voting member of the Board of Directors. Individual Directors have no special privileges, prerogatives, or authority apart from the whole. At the same time, being a Director of AHIMA and member of its Board of Directors is a special trust, and individual directors are expected to meet high standards of personal conduct on behalf of AHIMA.
To qualify for candidacy for the AHIMA Board of Directors, an individual must be an active member in good standing of AHIMA. A majority of the members of the Board of Directors should hold an AHIMA-approved credential. All candidates should demonstrate leadership skills, business acumen, and experience that reflects the Board Attributes. The Nominating Committee might seek candidates with certain types of skills or experience to complement those of continuing Directors, thereby strengthening the Board's overall ability to govern and represent the interests of our diverse membership.
As a candidates, you are required to complete a Conflict of Interest (COI) Director's form and submit to the Volunteer Leadership Development Department at AHIMA on or before the nomination deadline. If you do not, you will not be considered for candidacy.

Volunteer Leadership Self-Assessment on Executive/Governance Level Leadership
Directors serve a three-year term. Members of the Board of Directors attend four board meetings, participate in conference calls, and attend two the Advocacy Leadership Symposia and the AHIMA Convention & Exhibits. The President/Chair-elect and Directors may attend committee and council meetings and may be called on to represent AHIMA at alliance or component state association meetings. Directors devote an average of two to four hours per week to AHIMA.
AHIMA membership, during its annual election, names a new President/Chair-elect who serves a three-year term in the following capacities: the first year as President/Chair-elect, the second year as President/Chair, and the third year as Past President/Chair. The President/Chair chairs the Board of Directors, which governs the association, sets strategy, budget and maintains fiduciary oversight.
To qualify for candidacy for the AHIMA Board of Directors President/Chair-elect, individuals must be an active member holding an AHIMA credential. All candidates should demonstrate leadership skills and possess governance and fiduciary experience. The Nominating Committee might seek candidates with certain types of skills or experience to complement those of continuing Directors thereby strengthening the Board's overall ability to govern and represent the interests of our diverse membership. Candidates for President/Chair-elect must demonstrate the ability to effectively chair a Board of Directors and be an accomplished communicator.

The President/Chair-elect serves on AHIMA's Board of Directors for three years - the first year as President/Chair-elect, the second year as President/Chair, and the third year as Past President/Chair. Members of the Board of Directors attend four board meetings, participate in conference calls, and attend two Leadership Symposia and the AHIMA Convention & Exhibit. The President/Chair-elect may attend committee, and council meetings and may be called on to represent AHIMA at alliance meetings. The President/Chair-elect will be attending some component state association meetings. The President/Chair and President/Chair-elect devote an average of six hours per week to AHIMA. The President/Chair-elect chairs board meetings in the President/Chair's absence:

Meets with the President/Chair and Chief Executive Officer to develop the calendar of association activities, including:

Assumes the duties of the President/Chair in the event the president is unable to perform.
The House shall elect annually a Speaker-elect. The Speaker-elect must be an Active Member of AHIMA, an AHIMA-approved certificant, and a current or previous member of the House of Delegates. The Speaker-elect supports the HoD along with the Speaker and shall exercise such other duties as may be delegated to the office by the House. The Speaker-elect chairs the House Leadership Team and chooses the forum topics. The Speaker-elect shall assume the office of the Speaker upon the expiration of the Speaker’s term of office or in the event of a vacancy in the office.
The CEE is the leading force in education strategy for the profession, guiding the academic community through improvements to education, coursework, and the curricula of associate, baccalaureate, and graduate programs in HIM and related studies. Applications are due March 31, 2017. If selected for the ballot, the election will be held in August. If elected, the 3-year term would begin January 1, 2018.
To qualify for placement on the national ballot, the individual must be an active AHIMA member holding an AHIMA credential who has served on a CEE workgroup or CEE taskforce for at least one year within the past three years. In addition, other AHIMA members are eligible if they are nominated by a current CEE Council or CEE Nominating Committee member.
All candidates are to demonstrate leadership skills and experience that reflect the CEE attributes. The Nominating Committee may seek candidates with certain types of skills or experience to complement those of continuing CEE members thereby strengthening the CEE's overall ability to govern and represent the interests of academic and workforce stakeholders.

High ethical standards in both personal and professional decision-making and acting in the best interest of the CEE. Nominees for the CEE should reflect diversity in age, ethnicity, and gender. In addition, the Council membership should be comprised of associate, baccalaureate, and graduate program educators along with workforce members in leadership positions from any of the innumerable settings in which HIM professionals practice.
Elected Council members serve a three-year term. Members of the CEE attend one face to face council meeting each year and participate in conference calls monthly. CEE members also serve as a chairperson or liaison for one of the CEE workgroups and are required to participate in separate workgroup meetings as well. Workgroup meetings are generally held each month. CEE members' time commitment varies depending on the needs of the Council and workgroups, but an average might be four hours per week. Council members are also expected to attend the Assembly on Education Symposium/ Faculty Development Institute held annually in July.

The Commission on Certification for Health Informatics and Information Management (CCHIIM) is an AHIMA commission dedicated to assuring the competency of professionals practicing HIIM. CCHIIM serves the public by establishing, implementing, and enforcing standards and procedures for certification and recertification of HIIM professionals. CCHIIM provides strategic oversight of all AHIMA certification programs. This standing commission of AHIMA is empowered with the sole and independent authority in all matters pertaining to both the initial certification and ongoing recertification (certification maintenance) of HIIM professionals. Members of the CCHIIM serve a three-year term.
All nominees must sign the AHIMA / CCHIIM conflict-of-interest and nondisclosure agreement (provided as part of the application form).
Qualifications – Any AHIMA Certified Professional who meets all of the following shall be eligible for nomination as an At-large CCHIIM Commissioner (note: The following qualifications are codified in the current CCHIIM Operating Code)
Health Informatics and information Management (HIIM) Competence: Currently AHIMA-certified in good standing and has been AHIMA-certified continuously for a minimum of five years or more;
Leadership Experience: Has documented successful volunteer leadership experience at the Board of Director (or equivalent) level. Examples include: Chair, President, Vice President, Director/Commissioner/Board Member, etc.
Participation: Potential nominees understand and agree to abide by CCHIIM prescribed standards for participation and conduct with respect to all CCHIIM activities.
Ethics and Conduct: Potential nominees understand that if appointed or elected, part of the obligation in fulfilling the fiduciary responsibilities to CCHIIM will be to adhere to all CCHIIM governance policies and procedures. This includes reviewing, attesting, and signing all CCHIIM documentation with respect to confidentiality, conflict(s) of interest and disclosure, sexual harassment, and intellectual property rights, as applicable, and as set forth in the policy and procedures.
