Lydia Mays Washington, MS, RHIA, CPHIMS

Lydia Mays Washington currently serves as Senior Director, HIM Practice Excellence at AHIMA where she provides industry analysis and advocacy on current and emerging issues that impact health information management. With a focus on the advancement and use of health information management standards and best practices, she represents AHIMA in a number of industry and standards groups. Ms. Washington provides professional expertise in several areas of importance for HIM, including EHR integrity and governance, advancement of consumer use of health Information and HIM in the medical practice/ambulatory care setting.

Prior to joining AHIMA, Ms. Washington was Director of Health Information Management at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. She holds an M. S. degree in Health Informatics from the University of Texas Health Science Center and is a frequent speaker and has authored numerous articles and practice briefs in the Journal of AHIMA.
