
Lisa Spellman is International Secretary to the International Organization for Standards (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 215 and Administrator for the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (US TAG) to ISO TC215. In these dual roles, Lisa provides strategic leadership, oversight and management to ensure the efficient operation and effectiveness of the ISO/215 technical committee and the US TAG to ISO/TC215.
Lisa is a subject matter expert in health informatics standards, application of health IT, standards development, harmonization, and interoperability, health information management and exchange, strategic planning, advocacy and health IT policy.
ISO/TC215 has membership from over 50 nations who are represented by top leading global experts in healthcare, IT and healthcare informatics from across the globe. ISO/TC215 has published over 90 international standards that are in use by governments, product developers and healthcare organizations worldwide. The US TAG to ISO/TC215 provides guidance and feedback to ISO/TC215 on US perspectives for the globally developed standards. US TAG members represent the U.S. healthcare informatics stakeholder spectrum including the U.S Food & Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the American Dental Association (ADA), American Association of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and leading product development vendors including Siemens Healthcare, GE Healthcare and many others. Lisa also represents AHIMA in various global standards initiatives to help ensure that HIM principles, guidelines, and practices are woven into technical standards and implemented worldwide.
In her 20+ years of professional experience Lisa has worked with for-profit, non-profit and governmental entities in over a dozen countries including Australia, Canada, Spain, Ireland, China, Hong Kong, Brazil, the U.S. and United Kingdom.
Prior to joining AHIMA, Lisa was the Senior Staff Liaison to IHE International, International Secretary for HIMSS-sponsored IHE Domains and IHE USA and Senior Director, Informatics for HIMSS.
Lisa is a frequently invited speaker, panelist, moderator and instructor at events worldwide as well as serving as adjunct faculty for undergraduate and graduate courses and a contributing author to industry publications.
