Director of Government Relations

Don Asmonga

Don Asmonga plays an integral role in developing and executing the Association’s advocacy and policy agenda. Specifically, Mr. Asmonga is responsible for the identification, development, and implementation of advocacy opportunities and initiatives; completing public policy analysis and strategy development; and representing AHIMA before Congress, the administration, and a variety of alliance organizations. Additionally, he is responsible for developing and directing AHIMA’s grassroots advocacy effort—providing AHIMA members with up-to-date information on public policy developments and serving as key advocacy liaison to all component state associations (CSAs).

Prior to joining AHIMA in 1994, Mr. Asmonga served as the legislative director for Congressman Joseph M. Gaydos of McKeesport, PA. As legislative director, he was responsible for providing policy analysis and recommendations for the congressman’s legislative agenda on issues discussed by Congress, including healthcare reform.  He also served as a speechwriter for the congressman.  Mr. Asmonga’s affinity for public policy and the legislative process actually began in 1983 and 1984 when he served as the personal page for Speaker of the US House of Representatives Thomas P. “Tip” O’Neill, Jr.

Mr. Asmonga holds a Master's in Business Administration from Frostburg State University.
