Bonnie J. Wilkins, MS, RHIA
Bonnie Wilkins healthcare experience began while still in high school. She worked in psychiatric hospitals while in high school and continued as an adult until earning a business administration degree. In 1985 Wilkins founded a business and built revenue from zero to $1M in annual sales over 20 years. She developed all educational materials and programs, taught and monitored the skill acquisition of numerous new employees, and developed the abilities of permanent staff.
Wilkins valued the management of data that electronic information systems provided. Her life took a turn when her adult son was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor at age 23. He received state of the art treatment, and is healthy and vital 10 years later. This encounter with healthcare system, however, convinced her that communications in healthcare was in the dark ages. She was incited to apply her data management skills to increase the sharing of health information to improve care delivery and outcomes. She earned a Master of Health Information Management and feels part of the movement to transform healthcare. Her passion for the benefits technology brings health information is shared with students seeking to gain entry or advance in this exciting and evolving field.
Wilkins holds the RHIA credential and Master of Health Information Management & Exchange (MHIM), from The College of St. Scholastica.
