Sandra Brightwell, M.Ed, RHIA, FAHIMA
Sandra (Schindler) Brightwell, MEd, RHIA, FAHIMA is the director of the CAHIIM accredited Health Information Program at Central Arizona College. She has worked in health information management (HIM) since 1992, and obtained her RHIA in 1995. Her bachelor’s degree in HIM was obtained from Illinois State University and her master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. Sandra is a current Educational Leadership doctoral student at Northern Arizona University with anticipated completion in May of 2020. She relocated to Arizona from Illinois in 2002. She has volunteered for CAHIMA, ILHIMA and extensively for AzHIMA. She has held AzHIMA board of director positions including director, delegate, secretary, and president as well as the annual meeting chair. She received the AzHIMA Distinguished Member Award in 2010, and outstanding service in 2006. She recently served on the AHIMA Foundation’s scholarship committee and the Council for Excellence in Education programming workgroup. As an experienced HIM professional and now educator, she has a true passion for HIM and relishes sharing this with colleagues and future HIM professionals.
