Professional Practice Experience (PPE) Site Manager Opportunity
Every year health information management (HIM) students begin the search for a field-based professional practice experience (PPE). This is a great way for AHIMA credential professionals to add to their annual CEU requirement while fulfilling a fundamental obligation of the profession. This is your time to give back and help shape the future leaders in HIM. Become a PPE site manager; click here to sign up today.
Professional Practice Experience FAQs
Professional Practice Experience (PPE)
Bridging the gap from student to employee is difficult to do. To assist Health Information Management (HIM) students with this important transition, the AHIMA House of Delegates on Higher Education (HOD HE) has developed a comprehensive guide for students, programs, and affiliation sites that outline the process for HIM students to have meaningful exposure to the HIM practice environment. This typically involves the student being assigned to a site for a set period of time in order to blend theory (what was learned in the classroom) with practice (real world application). Credentialed HIM practitioners are encouraged to help their college programs with finding PPE sites for HIM students.

Corporate Connections
The AHIMA Education Department conducts a Corporate Connections program where non-traditional employers (healthcare industry, insurance, HIT vendors, and others) are contacted to set up paid and non-paid internships for HIM seniors and recent graduates.
Attention Students:
These postings are seasonal, i.e. there may not be any Corporate Connections opportunities at this time. All announcements are issued to HIM associate, baccalaureate, and master’s degree HIM program directors, so be sure to check with your school program to see if there are Corporate Connection opportunities.
Please view the brief presentation on Corporate Connections and contact AHIMA Academic Services to discuss how we can help you create internships at your organization.
