Create Custom Textbooks

The Textbooks on Demand system makes it possible for educators to design their own coding workbooks and HIM textbooks to support their course designs and to meet the unique needs of their students. Educators will be able to choose the content for their customized texts from a huge database of AHIMA book chapters, journal articles, practice briefs, and other association documents as well as original advanced content articles. They will also be able to add their own original content.


Customized textbooks are offered in print and CD-ROM formats for use in HIM college classrooms, computer labs, and distance learning programs. Customized textbooks can be ordered in four different formats: (1) as multiple copies of looseleaf pages punched to fit into three-ring binders, (2) as multiple copies of a printed paperback textbook or workbook, (3) as multiple copies of a printed spiral-bound textbook or workbook, or (4) as a CD-ROM for downloading to the educator's private information system or distance learning program.


Educators can order as few as 25 individual copies or as many copies as they need. The more copies you order, the lower the cost of each copy will be. Customized textbooks can be ordered using a preprinted form available from the AHIMA Web Bookstore or publications staff. Although unused print copies of customized textbooks won't be eligible for refunds, customized textbooks will be only slightly more costly than regular textbooks. Therefore, students will actually save money in the long run because they will only need to buy one textbook for each course instead of several.
