Guidelines for Authors

Perspectives in Health Information Management is a scholarly, peer-reviewed research journal whose mission is to advance the knowledge base of health informatics and information management practice. The journal aspires to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration between health information management professionals and others in disciplines that manage and/or use information to support patient-centered healthcare delivery. The primary focus is to promote the linkage of practice, education, and research and to provide contributions to the understanding or improvement of health informatics and information management processes and outcomes.

The types of articles sought by the journal are as follows:

Research papers that report on either qualitative or quantitative research whereby the research problem, question/objective, methodology, results, discussion, and applicability to practice are shared with readers.

Systematic or meta-analytic literature reviews that cover a specific topic in detail, from research past and emerging to practices related to the topic.

Education articles that report on academic curricula, case studies, or methodological approaches in curricula and/or instructional design and technology.

Case studies that report on experiences covering the broad continuum of health information management.

Methodological and evaluation articles that detail processes or techniques used to implement and evaluate new and/or innovative approaches.

Theory building papers that advance the discipline of health informatics and information management through the formulation and development of theories and models. Commentary that offers opinions on debates, issues, concerns, future trends, emerging technologies, and/or challenges in the practice of health information management and systems.

Submitted manuscripts are subject to a rigorous peer review process. This review process is designed to help authors improve their manuscripts and to ensure that only manuscripts that comply with general quality criteria, especially originality, clarity, and validity of results and conclusions, are published. AHIMA intends to document the publication's rejection rate.
