Long-Term Care HIT Summit Roadmaps

On August 2005, the first-ever LTC HIT Summit brought together thought leaders and stakeholders to develop a national agenda for health information technology (HIT) and the EHR. The goal of this summit was to work together to build a vision, consensus, and strategy around key action steps for the next 12 to 24 months and ensure that LTC is ready to step into the national agenda for an interoperable healthcare system.  The summit and road map proved invaluable and has resulted in annual summits.  In 2007, the summit conveners recognized the need to update the road map to reflect progress and new priorities.  The 2008-2010 Road Map for Health IT in Long Term Care was released in March 2008.

The LTC health IT summit mobilized stakeholders to recognize their common interests and vision and set a course of collaboration to improve the planning for and use of health information technology – the result was a road map for health IT in LTC.  The summit report outlines the priorities for two – three years and highlights key action items.
