AHIMA offers the Executive Skills Institute to accelerate managers’ development and prepare them for senior leadership positions. Participants will spend an entire day on presentation skills, a day on professional writing, a day on conflict and negotiation skills, and a half day on mentoring. The Institute incorporates projects that are meaningful to participants in the context of the HIM profession. A supportive environment with a peer group of outstanding HIM managers places the learning experience into a practical framework, adding lasting impact to the program material.

 

AHIMA is dedicated to serving our members and others in the healthcare field through continuing education designed to further expertise as healthcare professionals and leaders. HIM content knowledge is critical in this evolving landscape, and it is imperative that we develop leadership skills in our members in order to champion today’s issues.

  • Consistent behavior that instills trust

  • Effective listening

  • Exhibits high standards of performance

The Executive Skills Institute is comprised of a series of training sessions that not only teach executive skills, but immediately apply them to the realities of the HIM world.  In this way, participants are able to return to their workplace and implement the skills, and will have a distinct advantage that enhances their careers and demonstrates their leadership qualities to employers.  The skills gained through this institute will also prepare participants for becoming a member of the Action Community for e-HIM® Excellence . Executive Skills Institute Objectives

  • Serve as a foundation for developing core executive and leadership skills, including but not limited to: written, oral, conflict management and interpersonal communication; learning to process experiences into practical application, understanding leadership styles and roles; human behavior; and ongoing self-assessment

  • Focus on the dynamics of executive skills development within a personal and organizational context

  • Provide an opportunity for participants to apply basic leadership skills through experiential learning sessions and presentations

 

Expected Outcomes

  • Increased leadership and professionalism of HIM experts

  • An ability to immediately utilize new skills

  • Increased employer satisfaction with Executive Skills Institute’s graduates

 

Who Should Attend

HIM managers and directors who wish to acquire executive skills needed to advance their careers.
