Defining the Legal EHR

In order to move from using paper-based health records to electronic health records, the EHR must meet the requirements for being the legal health record for the organization.  Learn about and practice using tools available today from HL7 and AHIMA that can assist your organization in insuring that the electronic health record can serve as the legal record.  Review sample policies that can be modified to serve your organization in maintaining.  Learn the latest information about rules for e-Discovery.

Testing for Understanding the EHR

Electronic health records have many different ‘rules’ for how they record information.  Learn about the importance of testing to uncover the rules of how your organization’s EHR actually records the information.  Practice writing vignettes that will assist in defining how the records are to be recorded.  This is a very complex but critically important part of using an EHR.

Tools of the Trade

Review and practice using tools that will smooth the path of implementing an EHR in your organization.  This session will cover the use of data flow maps, building data dictionaries, process maps that will allow your department and the organization to optimize the electronic health record selected for use.

Building HIM Efficiencies with the EHRS
