Research

Research involves the investigation of ideas and creation of new knowledge.  FORE is specifically interested in applied Health Information Management research to support effective practices in the health care industry.

***The FORE Research Committee is sponsoring a Student Poster Competition for the 2008 National Convention.***

Research Training Institute

FORE has established the Research Training Institute to build a committed group of HIM researchers.

FORE Library Research Resources

To provide guidance and resources for the FORE Researcher Training Institute the FORE Library Staff have developed a comprehensive guide to help students start literature searches in preparation for writing research proposals.

The web site provides a clear and concise approach to understanding library resources, searching methodologies, and evaluating and obtaining text of what is found in a literature search.

We hope this site is useful to anyone wanting to find more information about health information management and research.

Be sure to apply next year for the 2008 Researcher Training Institute.

Research Priorities

FORE developed a list of Research Priorities at a 2007 invitational meeting of health information technology researchers, HIM experts and vendors.  The listed priorities were determined to be those most critical to HIM and the healthcare industry.  These priorities will be used to guide FORE internal research initiatives, as well as the funding awards for the Grant-in-Aid and Dissertation Assistance programs.

Grant-in-Aid

The FORE Grant-in-Aid program is directed toward supporting the development of HIM professionals as leaders in defining and validating the unique body of knowledge encompassed by HIM. The results of these studies not only provide information for the HIM professional toapply in meeting current and future challenges, but also support policy initiatives and the redefinition of the roles of HIM practitioners.

Reports

Dissertation Assistance

The Dissertation Assistance Award program supports research undertaken as part of an academic program to qualify for a doctorate in areas relevant to health information management (HIM).
