The FORE Library was one of the first programs funded by the Foundation. Established in 1965, the FORE Library promotes and advances HIM education and research. In February 2003, the Library centralized its library and research functions, offering two forms of research and information services to better serve AHIMA members. These services are considered member only services and are not transferable.

FORE Library: HIM Body of Knowledge

The FORE Library: HIM Body of Knowledge is the most comprehensive source of HIM information for AHIMA members. This online searchable library is your first stop for HIM reference materials. It includes AHIMA Journal and Advantage articles, practice briefs, position statements, government publications and links to other HIM Documents.

FORE Library Services

After searching the Body of Knowledge, AHIMA members can contact FORE Library Services for document delivery and research assistance services formerly provided by the National Information Center for Health Services Administration (NICHSA). Services are subject to fees as outlined on the Library Service Fee Schedule. Contact the library at (312) 233-1083 or library.services@ahima.org for the following services:

• On-site access to materials
  • The FORE Library of AHIMA is open for on-site access from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. central time, Monday through Friday. A variety of print and electronic information sources are available. Users of on-site photocopy equipment are liable for infringement of copyright.
• Photocopies of magazine articles
  • Photocopies of In Confidence or of entire issues of periodicals are not allowed.
  • Every effort is made to locate materials not in the collection and obtain photocopies as permitted by copyright law. Delivery time and costs for these materials will vary.
  • Photocopied materials are normally supplied via first class mail. No additional fee is charged for fax delivery within the United States, Canada, or Puerto Rico; outside those areas, an additional fee is charged. Page limits may apply.
• Information and Data Retrieval
  • This quick information service is limited to questions which can be answered quickly (approximately 15 minutes) using existing Library resources.
  • There is generally no research or delivery fee for this service. However, photocopy fax delivery restrictions and messenger fees apply.
• Research Service
  • Research services are available to AHIMA members for questions requiring a significant time commitment and/or the use of additional external resources and databases.
  • These services are subject to research fees of $50 per hour (minimum one hour; subsequent time billed in increments of 30 minutes) and direct costs if applicable.
  • If messenger service is desired, the requester must send the messenger when notified that the material is ready for pickup. For use of an express delivery carrier, an additional fee of $25 per request is charged if AHIMA’s account number is used; no additional charge is applied if the requester’s account number is used. Requests for fee-based services may be invoiced or paid in advance by credit card (American Express, MasterCard, or VISA). Deposit accounts may be established.
