In challenging times, it's all about the bottom line. For educators in the HIM community, there's no better place than the Faculty Development Institute and Assembly on Education (FDI/AOE) Symposium to gather new ideas, fresh data, and best practices to help you meet your program goals. In New Orleans you'll find the connections and solutions you need to succeed.

The 2010/2011 school year will be a time of planning and implementation as we prepare for changes to HIM education due to adoption of  ICD10-CM/PCS, and results of the ARRA HITECH workforce training initiatives. This symposium will prepare educators in the HIM community to meet the challenges ahead.

Testimonials

"It was well-organized and the sessions were scheduled rather well."

"Variety. Very useful material. It was also helpful to hear about all the legislation,
including ARRA, that is affecting HIM and its instruction. Networking with other
faculty and AHIMA staff is helpful."

"I liked that the program was jam-packed with pull-out sessions and a diversity
of educational topics."

AHIMA meetings are dynamic, exciting, and edifying events that bring you the very latest in health information management (HIM) news and education. Register for this event today by selecting the registration tab above or call Customer Relations at (800) 335-5535. More updates will be listed here in the coming weeks.

What's happening in New Orleans? Visit the city's site and find out!

While in town take advantage of all the exciting activities the city offers. On a tight budget? Then check out the free events. Below you will find a few good reasons to extend your meeting stay into a cost-effective vacation getaway.

Free Must-See Attractions

Arts Market of New Orleans
Presented by the Arts Council of New Orleans, the Arts Market is a monthly arts market held the LAST Saturday of every month. Located in Palmer Park in the lovely Carrollton Section of Uptown New Orleans (at the corner of two well-trafficked streets, S. Claiborne Ave and S. Carrollton Ave,) the Arts Market has no admission charge. The Arts Market features handmade, affordable art from local and regional artists and artisans.

The French Quarter
Bourbon Street is in the French Quarter, true, but, it is only one street in the French Quarter. When you visit, go beyond Bourbon and find great shopping, music, food, and hotels. The French Quarter is a vibrant neighborhood and a not-to-be-missed, living history museum.

New Orleans Cemeteries
New Orleans' above-ground cemeteries have been a must-see for visitors for the past century. Called the "Cities of the Dead," their hauntingly beautiful tree-lined streets and incredible architecture provide a unique experience.

City Park in New Orleans
City Park in New Orleans is a 1,300 acre park in the heart of the city. A natural bayou runs through it and at its edge. With an antique carousel and miniature train, it's a great place for kids too. City Park also encompasses the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Bestoff Sculpture Garden, the Botanical Gardens, and one of the largest stands of live oak trees in the world.

Other Attractions

St. Charles Streetcar
While it's wonderful to spend time in the French Quarter, try to get out and see the rest of the city. A fun way is to hop on the St. Charles Streetcar. And remember, it's a streetcar, not a trolley! The St. Charles Streetcar is $1 each way, and the best place to hop on is at Canal or Carondelet Streets in the Central Business District

Aquarium of the Americas
Located adjacent to the French Quarter, the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas is a stunning place to spend an afternoon in downtown New Orleans. Walk beneath the vivid Caribbean Reef, feed a stingray, become an Adventure Island explorer, and journey the Mississippi River

Louis Armstrong Society Jazz Band
Dedicated to the promotion and preservation of New Orleans Style Jazz, and to honoring the most notable and influential individual of the genre: Louis Armstrong. Available for concerts and other national performances.

Swamp Country Tours
Just about an hour outside of the center of New Orleans, things are even wilder than on Bourbon Street! Amidst the moss-laden cypress tree trunks, thick marsh reeds, and brackish watery avenues of the Louisiana bayou, local fauna lurk: alligators, nutria, gar, turtles, fish and birdlife. For nature lovers, Louisiana swamp tours provide a glimpse of some of the most exotically beautiful scenery and wildlife on the planet.
