Prepare for a dynamic training program that teaches coding professionals ICD-10-CM coding system proficiency while instructing them about training other professionals in this system. Attendees can expect a combination of one online course (self-paced) and one-and-a-half (1½) days of face-to-face training. The online course provides basic training in ICD-10-CM and must be completed prior to the workshop. The workshop engages the trainer with in-class, intermediate and advanced ICD-10-CM coding exercises while modeling training techniques.
Case studies from a variety of healthcare settings are reviewed to meet the following objectives:
- Application of ICD-10-CM definitions, conventions, and guidelines to determine correct code assignment for diagnoses in the hospital outpatient or non-hospital setting
- Demonstration of proficiency in applying ICD-10-CM codes
- Instruction in how to train coding professionals in ICD-10-CM
Throughout the 1 ½ day workshop instructors model the training materialsprovided to each attendee, and encourage them to use these in training other coding professionals.
At the conclusion of both the online and face-to-face training, attendees may elect to take an examination which must be passed in order to receive an AHIMA ICD-10-CM Trainer Certificate. Certificates are subject to renewal on an annual basis effective in 2011.

Prerequisites
- Three (3) years direct experience assigning ICD-9-CM codes, AND
- One (1) year training experience or two semesters teaching in an academic setting
Instructional Materials
Integrated throughout the workshop are instructional techniques and tips directed at effectively teaching the material to others. Attendees of the Academy will receive all the materials needed to learn ICD-10-CM and to then go out and teach it, including:
- ICD-10-CM Coder Trainer Manual
This manual includes intermediate, and advanced coding exercises for ICD-10-CM in addition to beginner, intermediate, and advanced coding exercises for ICD-10-CM. These coding exercises emphasize all aspects of the coding classification systems, in addition to coding conventions and guidelines. - Instructor Guide
The Instructor Guide includes an agenda, lectures (PowerPoint presentations) and assessments for each chapter in the ICD-10-CM Trainer Manual. Teaching tips will be embedded throughout the guide providing additional information for the trainers. An additional section providing information regarding the different learning styles and effective communication skills is also included - ICD-10-CM Code Book
The code books are used during the workshop to practice coding cases in ICD-10-CM.

Cancellation Policy
REFUNDS
AHIMA provides full refunds (less a $75 processing fee) for registration cancellations made through 61 days prior to the date of the first day of the program. A partial refund of 75% is provided for registration cancellations made between 60 and 46 days prior to the date of the first day of the program. No refunds are provided within 45 days of the date of the first day of the program. All refunds are processed within 30 days of receipt.
To request a refund, submit your request in writing to AHIMA Vice President, Jim Graham (jim.graham@ahima.org or fax: 312-233-1406). In the event of an emergency that occurs within 45 days of the program date, please contact Jim Graham.
SUSTITUTIONS
Substitutions (that is, assigning a paid registration to another individual) are accepted through 31 days prior to the date of the first day of the program, provided that the original registrant has not completed the distance education courses included in this program. A $75 processing fee will be invoiced at that time. Substitutions are not accepted within 30 days of the program date; no refund will be provided.

Please include the name and date of the program as well as the following information for both the original registrant and the substitute registrant: name, mailing address, phone number, and email address. RESCHEDULING
Rescheduling (that is, postponing the use of a paid registration to a future instance of the same program) is subject to availability and limited to future instances of the same program currently advertised on www.ahima.org and occurring within six months of the original program date. Requests received through 46 days prior to the date of the first day of the program will be considered with a $75 processing fee. Rescheduling is not permitted within 45 days of the program date; no refund will be provided.
