Dr. Blumenthal—the new HHS National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (HIT)—will provide a update on the Obama administration’s implementation of a nationwide HIT infrastructure. Don’t miss this highly placed speaker talking about an increasingly important topic. Dr. Blumenthal previously served as a physician and as the director of the Institute for Health Policy at The Massachusetts General Hospital/Partners HealthCare System in Boston, MA. He was also the Samuel O. Their Professor of Medicine and Professor of Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Mark R. Chassin, MD, MPP, MPH, President of The Joint Commission
Dr. Chassin will discuss the major quality and safety challenges facing health care today, the new directions and initiatives The Joint Commission is undertaking to help health care organizations meet these challenges, and the role of health information management in accelerating how rapidly we can reach new levels of excellence in health care safety and quality.
As Joint Commission president, Dr. Chassin oversees the activities of the nation’s predominant standards-setting and accrediting body in healthcare. Previously, Dr. Chassin was the Edmond A. Guggenheim Professor of Health Policy and founding chairman of the Department of Health Policy at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, and executive vice president for Excellence in Patient Care at The Mount Sinai Medical Center. Before that, Dr. Chassin served as Commissioner of the New York State Department of Health.
Dr. Chassin received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Harvard University and a Master’s in Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. He also holds a Master’s in Public Health from the University of California at Los Angeles.
