A discussion about the latest on the implementation dates for ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS in the US. In order to understand the impact to a facility, it is important to know the differences and similarities between ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS. There are numerous uses of coded data, and this transition will have far-reaching impact throughout the industry. Session focuses on the potential impact of making the transition to ICD-10-CM/PCS and identifies planning and preparation methods to use during this transition period.

Physician Quality Review Initiative (PQRI) in 2009


Diane Sandvick, CCS-P, CPC, Cascade Valley Hospital and Clinics

Overview of PQRI 2007 and forward, including quality measures and reporting options with excerpts from the 2007 reporting experience. Hear about important changes for the 2009 PQRI, and gain a roadmap to get started on including determination of eligibility, selection of the PQRI reporting option that best fits the physician practice, the 2009 PQRI Participation Decision Tree and other significant documents to guide implementation, and establishment of office workflow. Walk through the process with a preventive care measures group.

Anatomy Review for ICD-10-PCS

This presentation will review the anatomy of the muscular system and address specific muscles and how they are categorized in ICD-10-PCS. The main objective is to learn the muscles by name and their location in the body, classifying each one in its anatomic location.

Version 5010: Final Rule to Modify HIPAA Transaction Standards for Implementation of ICD-10-CM/PCS

On January 16, 2009, the US Department of Health and Human Services published its final rule on modifications to the HIPAA electronic transaction standards. This presentation:

  • Summarizes the final rule with special focus on Version 5010 of the HIPAA electronic transaction standards
  • Explains the relationship between Version 5010 transaction standards and the ICD-10 code sets and the reason why the modified transaction standards need to be implemented before ICD-10-CM/PCS.
  • Explains how the final rule will impact HIM professionals and their organizations
  • Describes the steps HIM professionals can take to assist their facilities during this period of transition.

Participants will receive a list of resources useful in preparing for the modifications.

This presentation will cover how MultiCare Medical System uses a clinical documentation integrity program with an electronic health record (EHR). The speaker will also address the productivity and tracking tools used to ensure the program results in accurate and compliant documentation, which leads to appropriate reimbursement.

Managing an Effective Query Process

Accurate documentation is the key to ensuring quality coding. Healthcare facilities should establish policies and procedures for ensuring the accuracy of documentation by healthcare providers. This presentation will review the process for developing an effective query process. Topics include who to query, when to query, and the types of acceptable queries. The importance of developing provider education and auditing programs is also emphasized.

Cancellation Policy

If you must cancel your meeting registration, you may either provide a substitute, or cancel your registration. In either case, please notify AHIMA in writing as soon as possible. A $75 processing fee is assessed on all cancellations received two weeks prior to the appropriate meeting date. After that date, the full registration fee will be forfeited unless your registration is cancelled due to an emergency. In an emergency, please notify AHIMA’s registrar of your cancellation via fax, including an explanation for your cancellation. All refunds will be processed within 30 days after receipt.

AHIMA reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a conference due to unanticipated circumstances. In the event of cancellation, registrants will be contacted and the full registration fee will be refunded.
