ARRA has placed privacy, security, and confidentiality in the industry spotlight, and new requirements—such as HITECH Privacy and Security Provisions—must be met. The CHPS credential demonstrates that the professional is trained to implement and maintain a comprehensive privacy and security program for the organization. Individuals who achieve the CHPS designation validate their commitment to advancing the management of privacy, security, and confidentiality practices.

The CHPS workshop is an extensive 2 ½ day face-to-face meeting designed to help HIM professionals prepare to sit for the examination. The workshop will review the five domains covered in the exam:

Domain 1: Ethical, Legal, and Regulatory Issues

Domain 2: Program Management and Administration

Domain 3: Information Technology/Physical and Technical Safeguards

Domain 4: External Environmental Assessment and Investigation, Compliance, and Enforcement

Domain 5: Customer/Client/Patient Services

Faculty will focus on in-class, in-depth examples and exercises while modeling training techniques. After successful completion of the meeting, attendees may schedule and sit for the CHPS exam using the voucher within 90 days of the meeting date.

Objectives

To prepare potential candidates to sit for the CHPS certification exam and:

Apply knowledge of how to create an incident/complaint response resolution plan
Develop, manage, and administer the privacy and security plan to protect patient information
Demonstrate the expertise for the best practices for implementing administrative, technical and physical safeguards
Define individual privacy rights and processes for executing these rights into operation

Target Audience:

HIM directors, HIM managers, privacy officers, security officers, IT professionals, compliance officers, risk managers, privacy and security professionals

Requirements to sit for CHPS:

Associate’s degree and six (6) years experience in healthcare privacy or security management
HIM credential (RHIT) and minimum of four (4) years of experience in healthcare privacy or security management.
Baccalaureate degree and a minimum of four (4 ) years experience in healthcare privacy or security management
Healthcare information management credential (RHIA) and minimum of two (2) years of experience in healthcare privacy or security management
Master's or related degree (JD, MD, or PhD) and two (2) years ofexperience in healthcare privacy or security management

Cancellation Policy:

REFUNDS

AHIMA provides full refunds less a processing fee of $75 for registration cancellations made up until 61 days prior to the date of the first day of the program. A partial refund of 75% is provided for registration cancellations made between 60 and 46 days prior to the date of the first day of the program. NO REFUNDS are provided within 45 days of the date of the first day of the program. All refunds are processed within 30 days of receipt.

SUBSTITUTIONS

Substitutions (that is, assigning a paid registration to another individual) must be requested at least 31 days prior to the date of the first day of the program. A processing fee of $75 will be invoiced at that time. Substitutions are not accepted within 30 days of the program date and no refund will be.

RESCHEDULING

Rescheduling (that is, postponing the use of a paid registration to a future instance of the same program) is subject to availability and limited to future instances of the same program currently advertised on www.ahima.org and occurring within six months of the original program date and within the same year. Requests received at least 46 days prior to the first day of the program will be considered. Approved changes will be accessed a processing fee of $75. Rescheduling is not permitted within 45 days of the program date; no refund will be provided. Registration must be utilized during the same year of purchase.

SUBMITTING REQUESTS FOR REFUNDS, SUBSTITUTIONS AND RESCHEDULING

AHIMA reserves the right to modify, cancel or reschedule any event or meeting due to unforeseen circumstances. Registered attendees will be notified of cancellation in advance of program with options of one of the following: 1) re-register for any rescheduled program if available or 2) receive full refund of monies paid for the cancelled program. Cancelled Program Refunds: Refunds for registration fees paid for cancelled programs with no rescheduled options will be paid in full and automatically sent to attendees with 30 days of notification. Rescheduled Program Refunds – Registrants for rescheduled programs will receive notification instructing registrants about either re-registering for the rescheduled program or obtaining full refund. AHIMA assumes no responsibility for personal expenses. Requests for refunds, substitutions and rescheduling must be submitted in writing to the Meeting Registrar by fax to 312-233-1500. All requests should include the name and date of the program. For substitutions, please include both the original registrant and the substitute registrant’s: name, mailing address, phone number, e-mail address, and order reference number. Notification of approval will be made within seven days of receipt of the request.

PAYMENT IN FULL BEFORE REACHING ONSITE

AHIMA is committed to supporting our customer’s ability to pay using purchase orders. However, all programs must be paid in full prior to the first day of the program. Individuals using purchase orders where payment has not processed by the first day of the program will need to provide a valid credit card to AHIMA to as confirmation of payment and agree that this card will be held up to 10 business days after the last day of the program . At that time if payment has not been made in full AHIMA, AHIMA may process payment using the credit card.
