Workflow Recap: What You Should Already Know

This session will shape and provide the framework for the rest of the meeting.  Participants will review the principles of workflow such as process frame, current state, future state, and so forth. In addition, the group will walk through a completed process frame and build upon the fundamental knowledge of ARRA and its impact on workflow.

Case Study: Breakdown and Analysis

Participants will break down and analyze a workflow case study. Groups will enjoy the benefits of networking with their peers to identify issues and concerns with different case scenarios and provide feedback on ways to improve the scenario.

Project Management

This session will highlight the principles of project management.  Understanding and facilitating projects contribute to the overall success of any implementation efforts. Setbacks and delays can cost organizations staff time and organizational resources. Participants will come away with sound techniques to ensure their projects finish on time.

Facilitation Principles

Most healthcare professionals are not trained facilitator,s and yet facilitation is a key portion of the workflow process. Effective facilitating techniques assure participants that they can handle even the most difficult of situations. This session will Identify key facilitation principles such as keeping the group on track, handling negative interactions, starting on time,  status updates, and making changes as needed .

Before any group gets started on an implementation plan, a quick brain workout is in beneficial. Why waste time sitting with a group of people who don't provide the feedback and input needed for a successful project?  This quick brain workout session will provide participants with quick, simple activities that help to generate positive and valuable brain power.

To end the day, participants will work through an intensive roleplaying session that will further build upon their skills in workflow analysis, project management, and facilitation.

Workflow analysis requires the use of tools and techniques that may be foreign to some. Learn the tools and techniques utilized frequently in workflow redesign, such as top-down methodology, swim lane diagrams, Microsoft Visio diagrams, and the like. Identify the pros and cons of each technique or tool and determine which works best for you and your organization.

Change management incorporates many different aspects into workflow analysis. As systems are implemented skill sets, environment, work culture, technology, and policies and procedures will change to reflect new processes. Managing these changes and its impact on staff can be challenging and overwhelming. Participants will learn to incorporate the concepts of change management into the redesign process to minimize resistance and ensure optimal success.

Everyone has had an implementation that failed. Throughout this session, participants will work through real life advanced implementation case scenarios that did not go according to plan. Participants will further analyze these failed cases and explore how they could have been saved. Network with your audience of peers to identify where the project went wrong and how to keep that situation from happening in your organization.

Cancellation Policy

If you must cancel your meeting registration, you may either provide a substitute, or cancel your registration. In either case, please notify AHIMA in writing as soon as possible. A $75 processing fee is assessed on all cancellations received two weeks prior to the appropriate meeting date. After that date, the full registration fee will be forfeited unless your registration is cancelled due to an emergency. In an emergency, please notify AHIMA’s registrar of your cancellation via fax, including an explanation for your cancellation. All refunds will be processed within 30 days after receipt.

AHIMA reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a conference due to unanticipated circumstances. In the event of cancellation, registrants will be contacted and the full registration fee will be refunded. AHIMA and ATC are not responsible for any travel arrangement cancellation charges incurred by event cancellations.
