    DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

    The development manager will be responsible for working in coordination with the fundraising staff, particularly the campaign director and annual giving manager, of the Foundation of Research and Education of the American Health Information Management Association to support operations of its upcoming $4 million capital campaign.  The development manager will be responsible primarily for collecting, organizing, and disseminating information on major and planned giving prospects.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Report to the campaign director of the Foundation and work closely with the director to achieve campaign goals.Manage all necessary staff support for campaign cabinet meetings, including scheduling of meetings, logistics management, notice dissemination, agenda preparation, minute keeping, follow-up and timely reports of campaign progress.
    • Conduct detailed prospect research on major and planned gift prospects, including individuals, corporations and foundations, as assigned; information gathered should include relationship with FORE and AHIMA, giving patterns to FORE and other non-profit organizations, other civic and philanthropic involvement, corporate relationships (employment history, boards, etc.), financial net worth, areas of interest, family relationships and affiliations.
    • Communicate prospect information and overall status of research underway to the campaign director on a regular basis.
    • Assist in developing cultivation and solicitation strategies for assigned prospects.
    • Assist in the production of lists, in information management and in the development of other solicitation tracking and control systems, as assigned.
    • Manage a personal prospect list, in coordination with the campaign director, focusing on forward movement toward gift commitment.
    • Assist in creating content for and updating Foundation and campaign materials, including campaign newsletter, campaign website, campaign brochure and ancillary materials.
    • Plan and organize appropriate campaign cultivation events and activities.

    Knowledge, skills, experience, and certifications required:  

    • Strong writing and communication skills.
    • A special attention to detail and talent for organizing complex projects.
    • A minimum of two years of fundraising or equivalent experience, preferably with a major capital campaign.
    • The ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
    • Advanced computer skills; Raiser’s Edge experience a plus.
    • Ability to work independently, requiring a minimum of supervision.
    • Bachelor degree required.

     

    SENIOR MEETING PLANNER

    The main functions of this position is to manage all aspects of researching, booking and finalizing the meeting planning details for all AHIMA seminars/meetings for the association.  This position will serve as the Chicago hotel and travel management company liaison, as well as the historian for the department.  This is done in order to increase our non-dues revenue by managing the seminars we produce.  This position also ensures efficiently run, cost effective meetings for the association.

     

    Knowledge, skills, experience, and certifications required:  

    • Experience managing vendors, especially hotels is essential.
    • Strong understanding of contract terms and conditions and industry terminology.
    • Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects.
    • Knowledge of and experience with menu planning and catering.
    • Knowledge of and experience with meeting set-up and operation.
    • 5+ years experience handling on-site management of meetings.
    • Proven organizational skills.
    • Excellent customer service experience and skills.
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
    • Computer experience preferred to include Microsoft Office.
    • Bachelor degree required.

     

    ASSISTANT EDITOR

    The Assistant Editor is an entry-level publishing position providing administrative and editorial support for AHIMA’s highly successful book publishing division.  Working with a tightly-knit group of publishing professionals in a culture of entrepreneurship and continuous improvement, the Assistant Editor is responsible for a variety of administrative and editorial functions, including: (1) performing administrative record keeping in support of the publications director and editorial staff, (2) acting as the business area's liaison with the order fulfillment vendor, (3) maintaining the product databases in iMIS and on the Web-based bookstore, (4) managing the exam copy program for educators and answering product-related questions from educators and other internal and external customers, (5) monitoring product inventory levels and managing vendor book reorders and (6) performing proofreading and other editorial tasks as a member of the editorial team. 

    Knowledge, skills, experience, and certifications required: 

    • Bachelor degree in English or another liberal arts field.
    • 1-2 years experience working in a corporate office environment.
    • Excellent editorial skills.  Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style a plus.
    • Advanced computer skills (MS Office, HTML) and database management; experience using Quark or In Design is preferred.
    • Demonstrated communication skills, conveying professionalism and AHIMA values in conversations with both internal and external customers.
    • Strong customer focus (i.e. quickly evaluates customer needs, builds/applies, tailors solutions to meet customer needs, manages customer expectations throughout process).
    • Ability to work collaboratively to achieve team goals and outcomes.
    • Self-starter.
    • Smart and happy disposition.

        

    CAMPAIGN DIRECTOR

    The Campaign Director will be responsible for working in coordination with the senior staff and volunteers of the Foundation of Research and Education of the American Health Information Management Association to manage the daily operations of its three year, $4-milion capital campaign.

     

    • Report to the vice president and executive director of the Foundation and work closely with this position to achieve campaign goals.
    • Provide staff support to the vice president and executive director in recruitment of the campaign cabinet and other volunteer committees.
    • Arrange and provide staff support for meetings of the campaign cabinet and other volunteer committees, including volunteer training.
    • Manage day-to-day operations of the campaign, including regular phone contact with campaign volunteers, and serve as the central information point for all campaign activities (including research and strategy development for leadership and major gift cultivation meetings and solicitations).
    • Conduct relevant prospect research on leadership and major gifts prospects and, using this data, provide suggested meeting strategy memoranda to volunteers and staff.
    • In tandem with the vice president and executive director and the annual giving manager, develop and manage a system for tracking the progress of each leadership and major gift cultivation and solicitation.
    • Plan and manage production of appropriate campaign publications and materials, including campaign newsletter, campaign website, campaign brochure and ancillary materials.
    • Plan and manage appropriate campaign cultivation events and activities.Supervise the receipt, tracking, recording and acknowledging all campaign gifts and pledges; monitor the pledge reminder and billing system.
    • Write campaign-related stories for the Foundation’s and AHIMA’s publications.Make regular reports of campaign status and progress to campaign leadership.
    • Other responsibilities as assigned by the executive director of the Foundation.

     

    Knowledge, skills, experience, and certifications required: 

    • A minimum of five years of fundraising experience, preferably with a major capital campaign or coordinating the work of several professionals to maintain high morale and campaign momentum.
    • Ability to work with sophisticated volunteer leaders.
    • Strong knowledge of individual giving strategies and proven track record of cultivating and soliciting gifts.
    • Strong leadership skills; management experience preferable.
    • Special attention to detail and talent for organizing complex projects.
    • Exceptional verbal and written skills; ability to make presentations to individuals and large groups.
    • Commitment to the missions of the Foundation and AHIMA and the ability to articulate them.
    • An organized, focused and goal-oriented personality coupled with a high level of initiative, energy and ability to work collaboratively.
    • A high level of personal and professional integrity, with an ability to inspire confidence and cooperation.
    • Grant writing and/or corporate and foundation giving experience helpful.
    • Advanced computer skills.
    • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally.
    • A baccalaureate degree with preference for an advanced degree.
