AHIMA Appointed Positions

If you are interested in any of the following volunteer groups, please complete the Application to Serve and submit your resume with the form.

 

  • AHIMA Foundation Board of Directors - Facilitates the gift program, corporate donations, and research initiatives.
  • AHIMA Foundation Research Committee -Defines the Association research agenda and determines available grants and scholarships.
  • Annual Convention Program Committee - Develop the annual convention program.
  • Approval Committee for Certificate Programs - Advise the AHIMA Board of Directors on issues that impact the educational coding certificate programs (pre-degree coding programs).
  • Community of Practice Advisory Committee - Establishes and oversees policy for community of practice operations.
  • Fellowship Review Committee - The Committee reviews applications and makes recommendations for fellowship awards and candidacy.  Members must be Fellows of AHIMA.
  • HIM Education Strategy Committee - Recommends strategic direction to further the goal of a strong academic base in HIM
  • Professional Ethics Committee - Interprets the Code of Ethics and reviews ethic complaints against credentialed members.
  • State Advocacy Workgroup – To address ways that AHIMA and its Component State Associations can enhance the CSA ability to advocate at the state and local level.
  • Virtual Lab Strategic Advisory Committee - Responsible for overseeing the development and ongoing maintenance of the AHIMA Virtual Lab as a strategic resource for HIM education and a valuable capital asset of the AHIMA.

 Practice Councils

  • Clinical Terminology and Classification - Monitor the changes related to clinical terminology and classification that are going on in today’s healthcare industry.
  • Electronic Health Record - Advise and provide AHIMA with expertise related to health information practices in an electronic environment.
  • Health Information Exchange (HIE) – Advise and provide AHIMA with expertise related to best practice of health information exchange.
  • Long Term Care - Advise and provide AHIMA with expertise related to best practices of health information management roles and functions in long term care environment.
  • Personal Health Record - Advise and provide AHIMA with expertise related to best practices of health information management roles and functions in personal health record.
  • Physician Practice - Advise and provide AHIMA with expertise related to best practices of health information management roles and functions in physician practices.
  • Privacy and Security - Advise and provide AHIMA with expertise in the areas of privacy, confidentiality, and security of health information.
  • Quality Initiatives and Secondary Data – Advise AHIMA of the issues and HIM best practices and functions in the quality domain.

e-HIM Workgroups

  • ICD-10 Academic Transition Workgroup – the workgroup will be responsible for two deliverables:
    • describe teaching points for transitioning to ICD-10
    • examples of how to modify curriculum across three point (now, interim and final switch to ICD-10)  
  • EHR Best Practices – groups of volunteers will focus on developing guidelines for e-HIM practice to address specific areas.
  • ICD-10 Industry Transitional Workgroup – the workgroup will address best practices for terminology implementation and data management.
  • Current Issues, Challenges and Legal implications of a Hybrid Record – the workgroup will address the challenges to ensure you have a complete record prior to filling a release of information request.
  • Clinical content Management – the workgroup will take a look at standards and methods for identifying or establishing taxonomies and other tools and identify approaches and best practices that can be used to facilitate the organization in searching and accessing clinical information.
  • Clinical Documentation Improvement Techniques – the workgroup will address the nuances of documentation improvement more broadly than just physician queries and how to work best with physicians to achieve actual improvement in documentation.
