Thought Leaders is a lecture series established by the AHIMA Foundation that presents an opportunity for HIM professionals—including corporate executives and AHIMA members—to engage with industry and opinion leaders on thought-provoking and cutting-edge topics. The Thought Leaders lectures allow a breadth of knowledge to be shared by the industry’s keynote speakers and experts, who will lend their depth of experience in presenting novel ideas to AHIMA members and the public. Lectures are recorded and made available online as a special series for students, practitioners, and the general public.

Joseph F. Coughlin, PhD is Director of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology AgeLab. His research provides insights on how demographic change, technology, social trends and consumer behavior will converge to drive future innovations in business and government. Based in MIT’s Engineering Systems Division, he teaches policy and systems innovation and is author of the on-line publication Disruptive Demographics. He is one of Fast Company Magazine’s “100 Most Creative People in Business” and was named by the Wall Street Journal as one of “12 pioneers inventing the future of retirement and how we will all live, work and play tomorrow.”

Mark Blatt, MD, MBA

Dr. Mark Blatt joined Intel in 2000 working in the New Business Group. He is currently Worldwide Medical Director, Enterprise Solution Sales, in the Sales and Marketing Group. In this role he concentrates on how health information technology (HIT) infrastructure can enable providers to deliver cost effective, quality care to all citizens. He has a particular interest in integrated care delivery, mobile point of care, secure computing and the emergence of cloud computing services. Previously Dr. Blatt was the Director for Healthcare Industry Solutions, in Intel’s Digital Health Group. In the area of care delivery reform, Dr. Blatt has worked with care delivery systems in many countries, including the UK, China, Mexico, Australia and the US to enable cost effective, sustainable systems that allow clinicians to provide virtual care to patients in settings as diverse as remote rural clinics or the patient’s home. Dr. Blatt currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Clinical Groupware Collaborative, Bryan University, and the Board of Advisors for Live Process. He is a member of the IEEE Medical Technology Policy Committee, the American Telemedicine Association, HIMSS, a Life-time member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and from 1982-2010, served as a diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice.

Dr. Travis Good is a highly educated (MD, MS, MBA), connected, health tech fanatic. Dr. Good writes, speaks, and builds products for the health and wellness industry, with a particular interest in mobile, innovative models of care, social media, and tools for health developers. He’s on a mission to Dr. Good is currently the editor of a widely read industry blog, HISTalkConnect, and speaks on health technology and innovation at national conferences. He’s also co-founder and CEO of CatalyzeIO, a hosted technology platform that provides services to app owners and developers building health and wellness apps
