Certification - Scheduling Your Exam

Scheduling the Examination

Authorization To Test (ATT)

After submitting all required portions of the application and the appropriate fee, Prometric will send you an Authorization To Test (ATT). This ATT will contain your six (6) month eligibility period in which you must schedule and sit for the examination and Prometric's toll-free telephone number (800/813-6779). If you would like to schedule your testing appointment online, please visit http://www.prometric.com. Be prepared to provide the unique identification number on your ATT, and to confirm a date and location for testing. You will be given a time and a confirmation number. Please make a note of this information, as an admission ticket will not be mailed to you. Directions to the testing centers are available online at http://www.prometric.com

Scheduling your Appointment

Individuals are scheduled for examination appointments on a first-come, first-served basis. It is ill advised to wait until the last moment to attempt to schedule an appointment; if there is no availability, you will forfeit your testing fee. Appointments may be scheduled a minimum of three days in advance. Candidates can schedule for an appointment within their 6-month eligibility period by contacting Prometric prior to the start of that period. If you fail to schedule during your period of eligibility, you will forfeit your application fee. Eligibility extensions are not granted. If you choose to reapply at a later date, you must submit another application and the appropriate fee. You will only be allowed to take the examination for which you were deemed eligible; no changes in examination type may be made at the testing center. Unscheduled candidates (walk-ins) will not be admitted to the testing center.

Testing Centers
Testing centers have been selected to provide accessibility to the most candidates in all states and major metropolitan areas. A complete listing of Testing Centers, including addresses and driving directions, may be found on Prometric ’s Web site located at http://www.prometric.com

Appointment Changes and Fee Refunds
AHIMA’s policies regarding changing an appointment are as follows:

  1. Candidates who fail to schedule an examination appointment within the time period indicated in their ATT will forfeit their application fee. A complete application and examination fee are required to reapply for the examination.

  2. Candidates may attempt to cancel or reschedule their examination appointment within the eligibility period by going to the Prometric Web site or contacting the toll-free number, at least two (2) business days prior to their scheduled appointment.

  3. Candidates who wish to cancel or reschedule their appointment but fail to contact Prometric at least two (2) business days prior to the scheduled testing session, will forfeit their application fee if they fail to appear for their scheduled appointment. A complete application and examination fee are required to reapply.

  4. Candidates who fail to appear for the examination or arrive at the Testing Center more than 30 minutes late for their appointment will not be permitted to test. A complete application and examination fee are required to reapply for the examination.

  5. In the event of a personal emergency, a candidate may request consideration to reschedule the examination without paying an additional fee by contacting AHIMA in writing within 30 days of the scheduled testing session. A description of the emergency and supporting documentation must be submitted with the request. Rescheduling without an additional fee will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
