A candidate must graduate from CAHIIM accredited based HIM program. CAHIIM accreditation helps to assure education programs meet a rigorous education standard involving topics related Healthcare and Health Information Management. Foreign candidates must follow the reciprocity agreements. Candidates in Australia, Korea and Canada can sit for certification in the US. Australia, Korea, and Canada have equivalent accrediting bodies that have been accepted by CCHIIM as meeting CAHIIM (like) accreditation standards). CAHIIM (US) - Health Information Management education occurs in academic programs awarding associate, baccalaureate, and master’s degrees. Each of these degree programs has a set of accreditation standards that ensure the quality of the education. Graduation from these education programs are the beginning of a career in health information management. RHIT

CCS

A candidate must demonstrate proficiency above entry level in order to sit for the CCS exam. The CCS is recognized as an advanced credential that requires additional education and/or experience to meet industry driven job expectations.

CCS-P

The CCS-P is recognized in the industry for outpatient and Professional coding as a higher-level credential. A higher level of education and/or experience is required to sit for the exam. In the marketplace there are higher expectations for a CCS-P to perform.
