Eligibility

Certified in Healthcare Privacy (CHP)

Candidates must meet one of the following eligibility requirements for the CHP examination:

  • Baccalaureate degree and a minimum of four (4) years experience in healthcare management

  • Master’s or related degree (JD, MD, PhD, etc.) and two (2) years experience in healthcare management

  • Healthcare information management credential (RHIT, RHIA) with a baccalaureate or higher degree and a minimum of two (2) years on the job experience in healthcare management

Experience in healthcare management will be verified through the application, which requires a resumé of managing people and/or projects in healthcare organizations.

It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure that they are eligible to sit for certification. Proof of eligibility does not need to be submitted when applying for the examination. AHIMA’s Council on Certification (COC) reserves the right to verify information supplied by, or on behalf of, a candidate. If selected for an audit, the candidate will be asked to submit documentation substantiating eligibility.

Writing these certification examinations are voluntary. AHIMA adheres to the eligibility requirements for certification. It is the responsibility of the applicant to comply with all procedures and deadlines in order to establish eligibility to take the examination.
