Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS)

New CHPS EXAMINATION

AHIMA is introducing a new Certification in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) beginning in April 2007. The Certified in Healthcare Privacy (CHP) and Certified in Healthcare Security certifications will be integrated to better serve privacy and confidentiality in healthcare by issuing a credential that demonstrates mastery in both areas.

The AHIMA CHPS certification is respected and valued because it denotes advanced competency in designing, implementing, and administering comprehensive privacy and security protection programs in all types of healthcare environments and settings including health information exchange and storage.

The CHPS certification offers increased:

  • Career opportunities
  • Credibility in healthcare environments
  • Leadership and recognition

In a recent survey, 70% of healthcare executives agree to strongly agree that credentialed employees help reduce exposure to fraud and abuse charges.

AHIMA will continue to support all current CHS, CHP, and CHPS credential holders through continuing education.

Applications for the new Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) exam are now being accepted. Applications and additional information are available in the 2008 CHPS Candidate Handbook.
