Item Writers

Call for AHIMA Item Writers for the

CCA, CCS, CCS-P, CHDA, CHPS, RHIA and RHIT Exams

Contribute to the health information management profession by becoming a certification exam question writer.  AHIMA depends on credentialed professionals’ knowledge and expertise. As our CCA, CCS, CCS-P, CHDA, RHIA, RHIT and CHPS certification programs continue to grow, we recognize that their success relies on a constant flow of new questions (or “items”) for our certification exams.

We need volunteers who can contribute challenging items to our exam item database for each certification. If you are AHIMA-certified and a subject matter expert, we invite you to become an item writer.

As an AHIMA item writer, you assist in molding the HIM profession and holding future AHIMA-certified professionals to a high level of competency. Other benefits include:

FREE online training

  •  Introductory item writing course
  •  Advanced item writing webinar

Level One Incentives – Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

  • Ten CEUs for completion of the training phase and acceptance of your first 10 items
  • Five CEUs for your next 10 items accepted after the training phase (for a maximum of 15 CEUs per reporting period (2 year cycle))

Level Two Incentives –Gift Cards After Level One is achieved, you will be eligible to receive:

A $50 gift card for an additional five items written

A $100 gift card for an additional 10 items written

A $150 gift card for an additional 15 items written

A $200 gift card for an additional 20 or more items written

To be considered as an item writer, please complete the Item Writer’s Data Collection Form. Item writers are required to be credentialed or to have passed the exam for the credential for which they are writing. Exceptional candidates who do not meet these requirements may also be considered.
