HIM Mentor Contest for Students — Winner Announced

Health Information Management (HIM) students were invited to submit an essay, “Why I need an HIM Mentor,” for the 2016 student contest. Many students shared wonderful stories about the inspiration and support they received from HIM professionals: their instructors, practicum supervisors, colleagues and component state association leaders.

The winning essay, by Rebecca Teleszky, RHIA, highlighted how the influence of her mentor, Maria Caban Alizondo, MAOL, RHIT, FAHIMA, who Rebecca had initially shadowed, led her to feel more confident and engaged in the HIM profession.

You may read Rebecca Teleszky’s winning essay here. Rebecca and Maria will present about mentoring at Student Academy at AHIMA’s Convention in Baltimore, MD, on Sunday, October 16.
