Two-color advertising is accepted in all sizes. Add $630 to the black-and-white rate. Materials must be provided as two process colors. Spot colors are not accepted. Materials received as four-color will be billed at the four-color rate.

All rates above apply per insertion and for placements between January through December 2009. Fractionals may be vertical or horizontal.

Bleed: Keep live matter (illustrations, photos, text) 3/8" from trim top, bottom, and sides.

Printing and Binding: Offset, SWOP Standards apply, perfect bound.

Digital Specifications: CMYK process only. The preferred ad format is Adobe Acrobat PDF/X-1a, with 133-line screen, 300 dpi, with all fonts and images embedded, with bleed marks set at .12 points from trim. Ads must be submitted as: QuarkXpress 6.0 or lower; Adobe InDesign, PhotoShop, Illustrator CS2 or lower; or FreeHand 8 or lower saved in EPS or TIF format. Include all screen and printer fonts. The preferred ad format is Adobe Acrobat PDF/X-1a, with 133-line screen, 300 dpi, with all fonts and images embedded. Color images must be CMYK; fonts must be Postscript or Truetype. Film will not be accepted. Ad materials not meeting specification may be modified or rejected. Upload files at http://www.ahima.org/advertising_materials.

Hard-copy Proofs Required: A press-compatible color proof is required for two- or four-color ads (for example, Kodak). Advertisements supplied to the Journal of AHIMA without an acceptable color proof will be printed to SWOP standards, and AHIMA will not be held liable for color complaints. A laser or inkjet proof is acceptable for black and white ads only. AHIMA will not be held liable for ad appearance if no proof is submitted.

General Regulations

Acceptance: AHIMA retains the right to refuse any advertisement or advertiser. AHIMA will not run advertisements for conventions, conferences, or meetings that take place 60 days before or after our annual conference unless it is cosponsored by AHIMA. AHIMA will not accept advertising that we believe will offend our readers, members, affiliated institutions of higher education, and/or our existing advertisers, or that is inconsistent with our mission. Advertisers and their agencies are entirely liable for the content of their advertisements and responsible for any claims.

Placement: The placement of an advertisement does not mean or imply endorsement of any product by AHIMA. 

Rate Definition: Rates are based on the number of insertions used in calendar year 2009 (January–December). If, within a contract year, more or fewer units are used than contracted, the rate will be adjusted to reflect the actual number of placements.

Rate Adjustments: Publisher may revise rates at any time with a 60-day notice.

Agency Commission: Fifteen percent of gross billing is allowed, if account payment is received within 30 days of invoice date. If payment is made after 30 days, gross rates apply. Commission discount is not allowed on inserts, Buyers Guide ads, or banner ads.

Cancellations: Cancellations must be received in writing no later than the closing date. If cancellations are requested after the closing date, the advertiser will be billed regardless.

Liability: Conditions on advertisers' order forms or invoices that conflict with the Journal of AHIMA’s policies will not be binding by AHIMA. AHIMA is not liable if an advertisement is omitted, or for errors in printing source keys.
