Governance and Association Leadership
AHIMA is governed by the Board of Directors . Members of AHIMA elect a president-elect and directors each year to serve in the role of governing the association, setting strategy and maintaining fiscal oversight and fiduciary responsibility. The AHIMA Board of Directors consists of 13 members including the CEO, who serves ex-officio as secretary/treasurer of the Board.
AHIMA’s volunteers are an integral part of the association’s Governance and Leadership structure. Leadership development is also an important part of the association.
The governing documents of AHIMA are the AHIMA Bylaws and the Articles of Incorporation. The bylaws are the agreement between AHIMA and its members and the Articles of Incorporation are the agreement between AHIMA and the state of Illinois. AHIMA also has a Code of Ethics by which all AHIMA members and certificants abide. The House of Delegates is the deliberative assembly of AHIMA which maintains the AHIMA Bylaws.
AHIMA is a federation with Affiliated Entities such as the AHIMA Foundation, Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Education (CAHIIM), Commission on Certification for Health Informatics and Information Management (CCHIIM), and Component State Associations (CSAs).
