Now more than ever, a strong, highly respected clinical documentation improvement (CDI) program can make a difference in achieving the goals of RAC audits, ARRA/HITECH, and other important initiatives aimed at improving the quality of healthcare. In response to industry demand, the Commission on Certification for Health Informatics and Information Management (CCHIIM) developed the CDIP credential.

The CDIP workshop is an extensive 2 day in-person meeting designed to prepare HIM professionals to sit for the examination. The workshop will review the 6 domains covered in the exam:

Domain 1: Clinical & Coding Practice

Domain 2:  Leadership

Domain 3: Record Review & Document Clarification

Domain 4: CDI Metrics & Statistics

Domain 5: Research & Education

Domain 6: Compliance

Faculty will focus on in-class in-depth examples and exercises. After successful completion of the meeting, attendees may apply to sit for the CDIP exam immediately. Attendees who purchase the CDIP package bundle consisting of the workshop, book (Clinical Documentation Improvement: Achieving Excellence) and exam will receive a voucher to apply to sit for the exam at no additional cost good for 90 days after the workshop.

Objectives for the workshop include:

  • Help prepare potential candidates to sit for the CDIP certification exam
  • Apply knowledge of official coding guidelines and MS-DRG assignment
  • Review CDI workflow processes
  • Analyze and develop effective physician queries
  • Evaluate CDI metrics and statistics for tracking the effectiveness of the CDI program
  • Identify CDI best practices

Requirement needed to sit for CDIP:

  • An RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, RN, MD or DO and two (2) years experience in clinical documentation improvement
  • An Associate’s degree or higher and three (3) years of experience in clinical documentation improvement (candidates must also have completed coursework in Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology)
